Noderail Tools — offline file utilities

Overview

Noderail Tools puts sixteen file and text utilities in the Chrome side panel, next to whatever you are already doing. The upload form stays open in the tab, the tool opens beside it, and the finished file lands in your downloads a few seconds later. No new tab, no round trip to a website, no re-uploading the result. Everything runs locally: you drop a file or choose it, or you type into the panel, and the work happens on your own machine — canvas for images, the Web Crypto API for hashes and signatures, plain JavaScript for everything else. The result comes straight back as a download or a copy. The tools make no network requests at all, so they keep working on a plane or a locked-down network. A right-click on any image opens the panel already set to Compress Image, so you go straight to work. You still drop or choose the file yourself — the extension does not read the page or the image you clicked. What is in the panel Images Compress Image — land under a size limit. Pick a target (20, 30, 50, 100, 200 or 500 KB, or 1, 2 or 5 MB, or type your own) and the tool binary-searches JPEG or WebP quality for the best quality that still fits, downscaling only if the lowest quality still overshoots. It aims to land under your limit rather than exactly on it, so you clear the upload cap with room to spare: in testing, a 1.79 MB PNG came out as a 97 KB JPG against a 100 KB target. There is also a plain quality mode with a 20 to 100 slider, and an optional maximum width. Drop several images at once — every row shows the before and after size, the new dimensions and the percentage saved — and take the batch as one ZIP. Resize Image — three ways to resize. Exact pixels with an aspect-ratio lock and one-tap presets (1920x1080, 1280x720, 3840x2160, 1080x1080, 800x600, 512x512). A percentage: 25, 50, 75, 150 or any value you type. Or a target file size in KB, where the tool keeps the best quality that still fits. Pixel and percentage modes output in the original format or as JPG, PNG or WebP; the target-size mode saves as JPG or WebP, since a PNG cannot be tuned to a file size by quality. Single file or batch with ZIP, and a warning when a setting would enlarge an image past its original size. Crop Image — drag a crop box over the picture with eight resize handles and a live readout of the exact output size in pixels. Lock it to a ratio: 1:1, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9, 4:3, 3:2, 2:3, 3:4, a width-to-height pair you type, or one of eight social presets including Instagram Story, YouTube thumbnail, LinkedIn banner and link preview. Rotate in 90-degree steps and flip either axis before you cut. Saves as PNG, or as JPG with a 50 to 100 quality slider. One image at a time. PNG to JPG — flattens transparency onto a matte you choose: white, black, or a custom colour from the picker. Quality slider from 50 to 100 and an optional maximum width that never upscales, and most common image formats are accepted. Each converted file shows its size reduction, and several at once download as a ZIP. Useful when a form refuses PNG, or when transparent areas turn black on upload. WebP to PNG — converts WebP, and other common image formats, into lossless PNG. Transparency is kept by default; pick white, black or a colour from the picker to flatten see-through areas instead. An optional maximum width scales down and never enlarges. Drop several at once and each row shows the output dimensions, the new size and the percentage change, stated plainly as growth, because a lossless PNG typically runs two to four times the WebP size. Take the batch as one ZIP. EXIF Remover — shows what is hidden in a photo before it takes it out: camera and lens, focal length, aperture, shutter, ISO, date taken, software, copyright, and GPS coordinates with a map link. JPEG, PNG and WebP are cleaned by rewriting the file's metadata segments, so the pixels and the quality are untouched and the ICC colour profile stays. Rotated JPEGs and TIFF are re-encoded instead. Cleaned files save as name-noexif, several at once as a ZIP, with a running count of GPS locations removed. Generators QR Code — build a code from a URL, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials, an email, a phone number, an SMS or a vCard contact. Set the error-correction level (7, 15, 25 or 30 percent recovery), the code colour and the background colour. Export a PNG at 256, 512, 1024 or 2048 px, export a true vector SVG, or copy the image straight to the clipboard. The preview redraws as you type and reports the module grid and the payload size in bytes. Favicon Generator — build the icon from an image you upload or from a letter or emoji you type, in your own colour and weight. Choose a square, rounded or circular tile, a solid or transparent background, and up to 40 percent padding, previewed at 16, 32, 48, 180 and 512 px beside a mock browser tab. The ZIP holds a multi-resolution favicon.ico, PNGs at 16, 32, 48, 96, 180, 192 and 512, site.webmanifest and a README, and the head snippet copies with one click. Password Generator — random passwords from 4 to 64 characters using A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and symbols, with optional rules to skip look-alike characters or repeats. Or memorable passphrases of 3 to 8 words drawn from a built-in list of 1,012 English words, with your choice of separator, capitalisation and an optional trailing number or symbol. Every character comes from crypto.getRandomValues. The generated password is shown with its entropy in bits, a strength rating and an estimated offline crack time; a bulk mode produces 5, 10, 20 or 50 at once as a plain list, each with its own copy button.
