Overview

Real Python. In your browser. On your device. Python Shell is a Python compiler, interpreter, IDE and code editor that runs entirely inside Chrome. A complete CPython interpreter is one click away — no installer, no account, no server. Write a whole program, press Run, and see the output. It works on a Chromebook, on a locked-down school laptop, and on a plane. 🐍 Run Python code without installing Python Nothing to download and nothing to set up, because you never install Python at all. Unlike an online Python compiler, your code is not sent to a server and nothing stops working when the Wi-Fi does. If you have been looking for how to run Python on a Chromebook, this is it: the interpreter lives in the extension, so Python works on Chrome OS without Linux, without a terminal and without admin rights. 📝 Write real programs, not one-liners A Python IDE you do not have to install: a proper multi-line editor with syntax highlighting, line numbers, auto-indent and autocomplete that reads your own variables as you type. Save your scripts, reopen them later, download them as .py files, or open an existing file from your computer. 🎓 Learn Python by running it Python for beginners, without a course to sign up to. Twelve worked examples open straight into the editor and run as they are: a first program, an input() quiz, turtle drawings, numpy arrays, a pandas DataFrame, a matplotlib chart, reading and writing files, fetching data from the web, and two that go wrong on purpose so you can practise reading a traceback and stopping a runaway loop. Change a line, press Run, see what happens — which is how Python actually gets learned. ✏️ Python homework, practice and exercises Somewhere to actually do the work. Open a practice exercise or a homework problem, write it, run it, fix it — the gap between typing a line and seeing the result is about a second, which is what beginner Python projects and coding exercises need. Your scripts are saved between sessions, so you can close the tab and pick up the same work tomorrow. ⌨️ An interactive Python shell as well as a script editor Switch to REPL mode for an interactive Python shell — type an expression, get an answer, keep your variables between lines. Everything the classic Python shell does, in a tab. 📦 numpy, pandas and requests are already here All three ship inside the extension and work with no internet at all. Need something else — matplotlib, scipy, sympy, scikit-learn? Just import it: it is fetched once, then cached for offline use. 💬 input() works the way the tutorial says Your program pauses, the console asks, and you type an answer. Programs that read input run exactly as written. 🌐 Real HTTP, with the library you already know requests.get(...) works, and so does urllib — both run over the browser's own networking, so API exercises behave exactly as the lesson expects. 🐢 Turtle graphics, properly import turtle works — the full motion, pen and screen API, drawing onto a canvas right in the console. No plugin, no login, and it keeps working offline. 📊 Charts appear right in the console Call plt.show() and your matplotlib figure is drawn inline, next to your output. 💡 Errors explained in plain English When something goes wrong you get the real traceback and, underneath, a sentence saying what happened and what to try. It stays quiet when it is not sure. 🔗 Share a program as a link Copy a link and the whole program travels inside it. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account to make or link to expire — ideal for a teacher putting starter code in a worksheet, or a student sending work to a classmate. 🔒 Exam mode for assessments One switch blocks every route to the internet, turns off package installs and disables sharing — while Python, numpy and pandas keep working exactly as normal. A banner across the top makes it checkable at a glance. 🔍 See what your program actually did A variable inspector lists what the run left behind, with types and sizes. Runaway loops cannot freeze the page: Stop interrupts your program, and a second press replaces the interpreter outright. 🛡️ Yours, and private Your code stays on your device. There is no account, no telemetry and no upload. Dark mode, light mode, adjustable font size and a resizable split are all built in, and the interface is translated into 52 languages.
