Flatcheck is a free, instant, letter-graded background check for NYC apartment buildings — automatically, right on the StreetEasy listing you're already looking at. No account, no ads. When you open a StreetEasy building or listing page, Flatcheck reads the address and drops a color-coded grade badge (A–F) onto the page, built entirely from public NYC Open Data: • HPD violations — open and closed, by hazard class • Bedbug filing history • Executed evictions • Housing complaints (per unit) • The registered landlord on file • Possible illegal fees under the NYC FARE Act, flagged from the listing's own fee text Click the badge or the toolbar icon for the full report, and a link to a shareable web page for that building. Why it exists: NYC renters make one of their biggest financial decisions with almost no information about the building. The public records exist — they're just scattered across city datasets no one has time to dig through. Flatcheck does it in one glance, before you sign. Honest by design: when a data source is unavailable, Flatcheck shows the section as "unavailable" rather than pretending everything is clean. Missing data is never shown as good data.
