Research faster in 2026 with these Chrome extensions — source finding, PDF annotation, citation management and reading tools that cut research time in half.

# The Best Chrome Extensions for Research in 2026: Find Sources Twice as Fast

Research has a rhythm: search, skim, save, cite. Most people lose time at every step because they use the wrong tools. These extensions fix the whole pipeline. I use all of them in my own work, and the difference is dramatic.

Finding Sources

**Google Scholar** is not an extension, but its browser integration is worth setting up first. Install the Scholar button, and you can look up any highlighted text instantly.

**Connected Papers** takes a paper you like and builds a visual graph of related research. It is the fastest way I know to map a new field. You find one good paper and suddenly you have twenty.

**Semantic Scholar** adds AI-powered recommendations that are surprisingly good at finding papers you did not know existed.

Reading and Annotating

**Hypothesis** lets you highlight and comment on any webpage or PDF. Your annotations stay in the page and sync across devices. For collaborative research, it is the best free option.

**Kami** is the PDF annotation tool popular in education. It handles highlighting, comments and even drawing on documents. Teachers and students use it heavily, but it works for any research workflow.

**Readwise Reader** saves articles and PDFs, extracts your highlights, and syncs them to your notes. The reading experience is beautiful and the highlight sync is flawless.

Citations

**Zotero Connector** captures complete citation metadata from any page with one click. Combined with the Zotero desktop app, it generates bibliographies in every format. It is fully free and open source.

**Mendeley Web Importer** does the same with a cleaner interface. Both are excellent; pick the one whose desktop app you prefer.

Organising Your Research

**Notion Web Clipper** saves everything to Notion where you can build a research database. **Obsidian Web Clipper** does the same for Obsidian's linked notes.

The trick is consistency. Pick one home for your research and save everything there. A cluttered research folder is almost as bad as no system at all.

The Research Stack

My full stack: Google Scholar for searching, Connected Papers for mapping, Hypothesis for annotating, Zotero for citations, and Readwise Reader for saving. Everything flows together and nothing gets lost.
