How to Export Passwords from Chrome (Safely)

4 min read · Updated 8/24/2026

Move your passwords out of Chrome to a password manager or another browser without locking yourself out. Safe export, step by step.

Why Export?

Moving to a proper password manager gives you encrypted vaults, breach alerts and cross-browser sync.

Export to CSV

1. Open Settings > Autofill and passwords > Google Password Manager. 2. Click Settings, then Export passwords. 3. Confirm your identity and save the CSV.

Import Into a Password Manager

[Bitwarden](https://singletabbrowser.com/extension/bitwarden), [LastPass](https://singletabbrowser.com/extension/lastpass-free-password-manager) and 1Password all import Chrome CSVs — most support drag-and-drop.

Delete the CSV After

CSV files are plain text. Delete the file and empty your trash once the import succeeds.

Frequently asked questions

Is exporting passwords safe?

Yes, if you keep the CSV secure and delete it after importing. Use a password manager import instead of keeping the file.
