How to Sync Chrome Across All Your Devices

4 min read · Updated 8/24/2026

Your bookmarks, passwords and open tabs can follow you everywhere. Here's how to set up Chrome sync safely on desktop and mobile.

Turn On Sync

1. Sign in to Chrome with your Google account. 2. Click the profile icon > Turn on sync. 3. Choose what to sync — bookmarks, passwords, history, tabs.

Sync on Mobile

Sign in with the same account on Android or iPhone and everything appears automatically.

Privacy Settings

You can use a custom passphrase to encrypt your synced data so even Google can't read it: Settings > Sync and Google services > Encryption options.

Troubleshooting

If sync stops, check that sync is enabled on all devices and you're signed into the same account everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is Chrome sync private?

By default your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. A custom passphrase adds end-to-end encryption.
